IF I (Light romantic)

If I mislaid a nickel for
Each time I wished to kiss
Your lips so soft and lovely,
And so hard to resist,
I'd be bankrupt tomorrow but,
So happy in my fate;
I'd go to debtor's prison dear,
Right after our first date.

If I had a heart of stone,
And fought my way through life,
The world would change and beautify,
And cease all senseless strife
If this girl with such lovely heart,
And demure, gentile ways
Stole my heart and softly said,
"I'll treasure it always."

So steel my heart and bankrupt me,
But share with me your charm,
And know that in this cold, cold world
Thoughts of you keep me warm;
That I would not for any sake,
Cause you harm or sad tears,
But comfort you, miss Sweetie-pants,
To chase away your fears.
